A messy spreadsheet: Metrics for UK retail investment/saving/digital wealth fintechs. I’ve been collecting revenue, user, profit, asset etc numbers for companies like Chip, Freetrade, InvestEngine, Moneybox, Plum in the UK retail investment/saving/digital wealth fintech space. Some of them are brokers, some savings apps, but they’re increasingly overlapping.
It’s a bit of a mess, there are certainly gaps and errors, I’ll update it every now and then. The big picture is that post-ZIRP, valuations corrected and capital markets tightened, shifting every platform from growth into profit mode, so expect platform closures or further consolidation. Moneybox is big, but is growth slowing?
16 Jan: I’m posting this because Freetrade announced a trade sale to IG today (RNS here). Shareholders might be pleased, disappointed (disclosure: hiya) or fizzing, depending on when they invested and whether they got preference shares.
In other investment platform news today, eToro plans to go public.
19 May: updated content for Chip, Freetrade, Moneybox, PensionBee, Plum since Jan 25.
